Exterior Overview
For most folks, a van is a practical purchase. It’s a compromise on wheels, and signifies a transition into the mundane. We believe in putting the passion back in van ownership, and models like this Mitsubishi Delica are untouchably cool. With a slew of options and equipment, and an engine found in a plethora of vehicles stateside, and a spacious interior, this 1994 is more than meets the eye. Accented by an OEM front brushguard, dual foglamps, and OEM rainguards, this van is packed with personality, and multipiece 15″ BERG alloys do a lot to drive the aesthetic home. Sure, the Sophia White (W09) paint shows a few paint chips, dings, and loss of gloss, but with a versatile interior and beefy Falken all terrains, you’ll likely see past the bumps and bruises. Sporting just 100k verified/documented miles, this marvelous Mitsu is barely broken in and runs and drives like a champ! Accessible, rugged, and built to traverse any terrain, this trusty hauler is cooler than the other side of the pillow.
Interior Overview
The exterior gets the looks, but the interior of this Delica keeps drivers and passengers coming back time and time again. Upholstered in a durable striped cloth, the seats are in excellent shape and as a whole this van appears to be well cared for in a prior life. Interior versatility was clearly Mitsubishi’s top priority, and three rows of seating are able to be oriented to best suit your needs. To maximize cargo space, the rear bench can stow against the d-pillars, and for optimal comfort and camaraderie on a roadtrip, the middle bench can swivel a full 180 degrees to face the rear. Once at the campsite, all rows can be folded flat to deploy a makeshift sleeping surface so you can catch some Z’s. Up front, both driver and passenger gain access to dual zone climate control so you can funnel both cold A/C and hot heat rearward as needed. The dash and surrounding hard plastics have also resisted any serious wear and tear over the years, and an additional storage cubby sits atop the passenger side to keep your valuables secure. Both power windows work as advertised up front, as do the power mirrors. Factory keyless entry commands the power locks and makes daily driving a bit easier too. The factory carpets are in good nick, and the headliner is well-kept,too. We can’t find enough good things to say about this Delica’s interior. It feels premium, has more than enough options for daily driving, and most importantly, it was clearly treated with care by a previous owner. That’s not to say it’s perfect, however, as we did want to note that the aftermarket audio no longer functions, and there are a couple punctures atop the passenger glovebox region.
Mechanical Overview
For trips to campsites and off the beaten path, a simple to service, dependable motor is necessary. The 4G64 under the bonnet shares most of its parts with its USDM equivalent, and ours is fresh off a recent service by our trained technicians. It cranks over with haste, care of a new 12v battery. From there, we installed a new exhaust and changed out the engine air filter and fuel filter to keep the 2.4l running in tip-top shape. We buttoned everything up with a fresh oil and filter service, and with the maintenance performed, this freshly serviced hauler is ready to hit the highway! A responsive automatic gearbox sends the power rearward, and if additional traction is required, Super Select 4WD can engage at speed and a center locking differential is on standby for when the going gets tough. The suspension feels planted and comfortable overall, even over harsher terrain, and we installed new rear lower control arms to keep handling predictable. New front brake calipers, hoses, pads, and brake rotors helps bolster stopping power in case you need to abruptly veer off trail. The brake fluid was also flushed for good measure. The brand new Falken rubber looks terrific, grips strongly, and gives this Delica the all business aesthetic needed to turn heads wherever it goes.
