Exterior Overview
Sometimes life gets in the way, and sometimes two extra doors become a necessity, but that shouldn’t stop you from owning a Japanese Classic! R33 Skyline sedans are fun, practical, and just as exhilarating to drive as their coupe siblings. Equipped with a few tasty upgrades, and a potent turbocharged rear wheel drive drivetrain, our 1994 is a prime example. It looks good in a fresh spray of Alpine White (300) and is set off by a factory optional naVan rear spoiler and an OEM aero front bumper. For collectibility’s sake, the 113k miles on the clock are verified and documented too. That’s not to say this is a perfect vehicle, as some minor paint imperfections and blemishes are present. Still, it looks dang good, attracts plenty of attention, and would make for a perfect daily driver with its smooth shifting automatic gearbox. Understated, underrated, but still a blast to own, modify, and maintain, these R33 models are here to stay!
Interior Overview
The interior is spacious, comfortable, and chock full of all the power amenities you’d need out of a dependable daily sedan. The gray cloth upholstery was clearly cared for in a prior life, and outside of a small nick in the driver’s bolster, the rest of the materials have remained in great shape, from the headliner to the matching inserts in the door cards. The center stack is trimmed in a complementary textured black and houses OEM audio and a surprisingly modern digital automatic climate control unit. For those looking to putt this one around through all four seasons, you can adjust between ice-cold A/C and hot heat on the fly. Power windows, power locks, and power mirrors work at the flick of a switch and compliment the rest of the functional equipment nicely. The dash cover shows no signs of cracking or fading, and the driver benefits from a leather-wrapped MOMO steering wheel and a tilt adjustable steering column. Even the factory carpets were kept in great shape, with no holes or excessive staining. That’s not to say the cabin is perfect, as the factory door speakers have seen better days, and there is some wear on the shift lever. That may be nitpicking, however, as we think the condition of this cabin really impresses.
Mechanical Overview
The turbocharged, rear-wheel drive layout is tried and true, and the two extra doors don’t make this feel any less Skyline. Better yet, this R33 is fresh off a recent service here, and has passed its state safety inspection with flying colors. It starts up abruptly, care of a new 12v battery, and a new engine air filter and fuel filter give the RB a bit of a tune up. We flushed out the coolant with all new juice, and installed all new spark plugs and coil packs across the board. Chock full of midrange power, this R33 sails up to highway speeds swiftly, and the automatic gearbox feels dialed, with no hesitations or slips. The long wheelbase lends itself to superior highway stability, and we installed new coilover suspension on all four corners to keep the chassis planted to the pavement. To keep the drivetrain safety compliant, new rear subframe bushings were installed. Perhaps the most valuable service performed here was a full steering rack rebuild. We replaced the rack and pinion seals, and then reassembled the unit with new inner and outer tie rods and rack boots. New fluid was flushed in, and a fresh alignment was performed to dial the chassis. New front and rear brake pads aid stopping power. The rear rotors were also replaced, and the front rotors were resurfaced to help prolong pad life. The factory alloys are wrapped in all new Dunlop rubber. Stylish and comfortable, this special Skyline has a lot going for it, and it should reward the next owner tremendously!
