Description
Stock #7029
Boasting a steadfast AWD drivetrain, this super sedan is comfortable enough to daily drive, civil on the freeway, but would really show its true colors carving up the tail of the dragon or a twisting canyon road.
Exterior Overview
These days, it’s hard to find an affordable, turbocharged, manual enthusiast car. It should come as no surprise that we get frequent requests for the GC8 Impreza WRX, as the platform prevails as a fan-favorite option that checks all of these boxes and then some. Finished in Cardinal Red (936), this 1995 WRX is set off by some top-tier aftermarket upgrades, tasteful cosmetic touch-ups, and substantial amounts of service. Set off by a factory optional spoiler, OEM side skirts, rear spats, and 17″ Work Meister S1 alloy wheels, the cosmetics are above-average overall on this red sled, and Fortune Auto 510 coilovers help snug up any unwanted wheel gap. Best of all, the 75k miles on the clock are verified, documented, and outclass most old-school Subies putting around stateside. Boasting a steadfast AWD drivetrain, this super sedan is comfortable enough to daily drive, civil on the freeway, but would really show its true colors carving up the tail of the dragon or a twisting canyon road. With performance, power, and panache, it’s hard to go wrong with these beloved Japanese Classics!
Interior Overview
Perhaps a bit unintentional, the interior’s red tiger-striped accents pair perfectly with the exterior styling. Like the paint condition, the fit and finish of the interior materials are above average, and it’s clear this GC8 was well cared for in a prior life. The seats lack any major rips, stains, or tears on the upholstery, and the same can be said for the condition of the soft-touch vinyl dashboard components. Even the factory Nardi steering wheel and shift knob are in terrific shape, with their original leather coverings. The center stack is easy to navigate and features an abundance of creature comforts beneficial for daily use cases. Automatic climate control can push out cold A/C and hot heat on command, and an adjacent Alpine touchscreen audio features USDM FM compatibility, Apple Carplay, and hands free connectivity all in one. At some point, you’ll want to mute the tunes, shut off the A/C, and enjoy the intoxicating Subaru rumble from outside. To let in fresh air, all four power windows easily open, and a power moonroof unfurls backward. Also operable are power locks and electric folding side mirrors. Still, at 30 years old, perfection isn’t possible, and we wanted to note that the power moonroof retracts slowly. The rear bench is spacious enough to fit passengers, and the remaining cabin materials are in good shape from the headliner to the carpets beneath, which have also been protected by OEM floormats. Save for a couple of minor headliner stains and a deleted antenna, we think this is the perfect cabin to pass on to an eager next owner!
Mechanical Overview
Under the bonnet, the turbocharged EJ20G powerplant stands loud and proud and is similar to turbocharged boxers equipped in later-model US offerings. This makes parts acquisition and servicing a snap for Subaru gearheads, and this one runs right as rain. The flat-four fires up promptly with the twist of a key, thanks to a new 12v battery and she runs smooth after a fresh oil and filter service. We installed a new engine air filter and fuel filter to give this 2.0T a tuneup, and we also took care of a pesky valve cover gasket service. New spark plugs aid ignition, and an RSR exhaust works to amplify that signature Subaru rumble. Shifts through the close ratio 5-speed box are smooth and direct, and although the shifter assembly has a bit of play, this WRX is perfectly geared for weekend trips through the twisties. The suspension has been heavily overhauled with top-of-the-line goodies. The coilovers keep the chassis planted to the ground, and Whiteline swaybars and endlinks eliminate excessive body roll. An STi steering rack also improves cornering, and upgraded 4 pot/2 pot OEM brakes keep stopping distances to a minimum. A rear differential fluid service keeps your symmetrical AWD in good working order, and Continental rubber is in good shape on all four corners. This is a terrific driver, a sexy show car, and, as expected, a true Japanese Classic!
