Stock #6905 Perfect for weekends in the mountains, yet able to pull double duty ferrying the kids to soccer, this efficient and capable SUV leaves little to be desired. Tough, collectible, and cool, the Hilux is a Japanese Classic to the core. Exterior Overview Kaizen is the Japanese philosophy of continued improvement in business. Toyota utilized this process to become the world’s largest automaker, and the brand itself became synonymous with reliability. This 2000 Hilux Surf arrived just after the millennium and boasts a slate of upgrades and improvements from the previous versions of this timeless SUV. This example is powered by Toyota’s newest US legal version of their 3.0L turbodiesel, which touts a bump in horsepower and fuel economy from the addition of direct injection. Offered with only 131k verified and documented miles on the lock, this Natural White over Millennium Silver (K72) SSR-X model is fresh off a recent service. Aside from a few light dings, chips, and scuffs, the paint is in good nick, and this five seater is adorned by a set of Bridgestone Berg CV928 wheels, a scooped hood, an OEM front bumper protector, OEM spoiler, and an OEM spare tire swingarm. Perfect for weekends in the mountains, yet able to pull double duty ferrying the kids to soccer, this efficient and capable SUV leaves little to be desired. Tough, collectible, and cool, the Hilux is a Japanese Classic to the core. Interior Overview The interior is in good shape and includes a few upgrades and some decent electric amenities. The driver benefits from a tilt-adjustable steering column and an adjustable lumbar support. The dashboard is in good nick, and lacks any cracking or distortion. Dual SRS airbags are standard, as is ABS, if you happen to be safety-conscious. A large Pioneer touchscreen headunit dominates the center stack and sounds crisp and clear. Bluetooth integration is handy when you want to keep your eyes on the road ahead. Above, the digital automatic climate system handles the A/C and heat so that the cockpit can be enjoyed year-round. If you prefer more natural ventilation, the side windows and rear glass can be powered down to improve airflow. The seats are trimmed in a soft yet durable tan cloth. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and were supportive on long hauls. The rear occupants can enjoy 4-way reclining rear seats, and when additional cargo space is desired, they can tumble forward, creating a flat loading floor. They also split fold. Power mirrors and door locks work like a charm, and even a spare key is included with the purchase. The door cards, headliner, and carpets have escaped major abuse over the past quarter century, and even the OEM carpet mats are included with the purchase of this terrific Toyota. Mechanical Overview Toyota enthusiasts love this platform for its tough body-on-frame underpinnings and robust diesel engine. The 1KD-FTV under the bonnet is fresh off an oil and filter service and cranks to life quickly courtesy of a new 12v battery. A proper tune-up was in order, and we installed a new engine air filter, fuel filter, and accessory belt. So that the Surf would be able to handle thermal management, we exchanged the coolant for new stuff, and one of our trained techs then replaced the valve cover gasket and injector seals. A few PCV hoses were replaced, the throttle body and EGR were cleaned, and the 3.0L runs right as rain. It’s linked to a stout automatic that makes good use of the low-end grunt. A selective transfer case with an optional center locker allows the pilot to toggle between 2WD and 4WD on the fly. For tough terrain, a low-range gearset can also be engaged. This N185 hustles up to highway speeds and is a comfortable interstate cruiser. When you need to jam on the brakes, they feel confident and do a swell job of slowing this midsize sport utility down. The suspension received a heavy refresh. New front and rear shocks, new front ball joints, and new rear lower control arms were all installed. The steering system was completely rehabbed, too. The rack was rebuilt, new steering rack boots were installed, and we flushed the fluid for good measure. To dial in a proper alignment, we replaced the inner and outer tie rods. She now tracks straight as an arrow and rides on freshly mounted and balanced Falken rolling stock. The new 31″ rubber quells road noise, looks mean, and will last for tens of thousands of miles to come. Turn key and ready to rock, this highly desirable Hilux can be yours today. *California Residents: In order to register a Grey Market vehicle in the state of California then it will have to be made CARB compliant first.
