Suzuki Jimny generations & buyer's guide

7 Suzuki Jimny listings for sale →

The Suzuki Jimny has been in production since 1970 across four generations, all sharing the same fundamental concept: a body-on-frame, ladder-chassis 4WD designed for genuine off-road use in a compact package. The LJ series (1970–1981) used a 550cc two-cylinder engine. The SJ series (1981–1998) grew to 550cc–1.3L engines. The JB23 (third generation, 1998–2018) is the most commonly exported and used a 660cc turbocharged K6A three-cylinder — the final kei-spec Jimny before the design was widened. The JB74 (fourth generation, 2018–present, Jimny Sierra) uses a 1.5L K15B and meets global export regulations; it is not a kei vehicle. Both JB64 (kei) and JB74 (Sierra) continue in production.
